Events celebrate Earth Day

With Earth Day just around the corner, a number of organizations are presenting programs this year in its recognition.

From 1-4:30 p.m. on Earth Day, April 22, a Mounts Botanical Garden celebration will include seminars and tours of the gardens.
Breakers landscape manager Lloyd Singleton will give a keynote talk on “Growing Local, Buying Local, Eating Local.”

Palm Beach County Cooperative Extension Service staff will conduct lectures on “Reducing your Carbon Footprint at Home,” “Poison-proof your Garden” and other topics. Suggested admission is $5.

A Green Conference to be held from 3-8 p.m. on April 25 at the Soma Center, 609 Lake Ave., in Lake Worth, will focus on environmental issues affecting Florida. “Global Warming in South Florida,” “Threats & Insults to Our Coastal Environment” are among the topics speakers will discuss.

Admission is free. An “eco-party” will follow the conference. For more information, call 396-0774.
